The HAWK30X are the strongest, most durable, most extreme wheels Berd has ever designed. Made specifically for downhill and enduro riding and racing as well as eMTB, these are not just a marginally improved version of the HAWK30. These are in an entirely different class.
The spokes for HAWK30X wheels are our brand new PolyLightX spokes, which are exclusively available with the HAWK30X wheels. With a diameter that is 50% larger, PolyLightX spokes are 44% stiffer and have more than double the abrasion resistance compared to our already-strong PolyLight spokes. Still, they weigh only 3.5 grams each (1 gram more than our standard spokes).
The HAWK30X rims are a result of our extremely strong partnership with We Are One Composites in Canada. The rims have the same external geometry as our HAWK30 rims, but with a bolstered layup to provide an unbelievably high impact strength.
The 30 mm internal rim width pairs well with 2.4″ to 2.6″ tires, while the 18 mm depth yields engineered radial compliance and high lateral stiffness. The combination of vibration damping from Berd spokes and the radial compliance of the rim means more speed over rough terrain, increased control and trail feel, and less rider fatigue.
With an extremely wide 3.75 mm rim lip, the HAWK30X rim spreads out tire/rim impacts across a larger surface area to prevent tire and rim damage during acute impacts.
The HAWK30X wheelset is built around our flagship Berd Talon Hub featuring hooked hub flanges designed to work specifically with Berd spokes along with a dual-sprung 54t ratchet freehub.
HAWK30X is also available to be ordered using the Onyx Hook Flange Hub system in the Classic chassis default for 12×148 boost rear spacing and Vesper for 12×157 rear spacing. The Classic Hook Flange hubs are an all-new design of the burly Classic hub which features the two full clutches in a machined hub body that resembles the Vesper hub system. This delivers a rear hub that is strong and durable enough for heavy, high torque usage in a package that is just a few grams heavier than the Vesper. Vesper hubs can be requested for 148 if desired. Please allow up to 4-6 weeks for delivery of wheels with Onyx hubs.
